QuestingHound Supports Coastal Stewards’ Marine Conservation Efforts
At QuestingHound, our commitment to giving back to the community is exemplified through our partnership with Coastal Stewards. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to conserving and rehabilitating marine life and coastal ecosystems. Recently, Coastal Stewards’ efforts were highlighted by the release of two rehabilitated sea turtles, Terra and Marina, into the wild, demonstrating their dedication to marine conservation.
A Night of Celebration: The Release of Terra and Marina
On a serene evening in Boca Raton, Coastal Stewards released two juvenile green sea turtles, Terra and Marina, back into their natural habitat. This event was not only a significant milestone for the turtles but also a testament to the organization’s relentless efforts in marine conservation.
Terra arrived at the Coastal Stewards rehabilitation center with two fishing hooks embedded in her body. After meticulous care and successful removal of the hooks, she spent three months recovering under the watchful eyes of the Coastal Stewards team. Terra holds a special place as she was the first sea turtle patient since the reopening of the rehab center.
Marina also faced challenges with fishing hooks lodged in her mouth and flipper. The dedicated team at Coastal Stewards provided her with comprehensive medical care, helping her recover fully and prepare for her return to the ocean.
The release event, led by Dr. Shelby Loos, Director of Marine Life Conservation, and supported by key members of the Coastal Stewards team, was attended by around 70 people. It was a moving experience, highlighting the community’s support and the impact of Coastal Stewards’ work.
Coastal Stewards: Guardians of Marine Life
Since its inception in 1981, Coastal Stewards has been at the forefront of marine conservation. Based in Ocean Ridge, the organization operates its rehabilitation center, “Robyn’s Place,” out of the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton. Over the years, Coastal Stewards has made significant strides in marine life conservation, releasing hundreds of rehabilitated sea turtles back into the wild.
The mission of Coastal Stewards is to inspire and engage the community in the stewardship of coastal and marine ecosystems. In 2023, they expanded their focus to include the rescue and rehabilitation of not only sea turtles but also dolphins, manatees, and whales. Their dedication to sustainability, engagement, and awareness continues to guide their efforts towards a thriving coastal future.
